BoM - 2Ne 9:39 - Are we all carnally minded?

39 O, my beloved brethren, remember the awfulness in atransgressing against that Holy God, and also the awfulness of yielding to the enticings of that bcunning one. Remember, to be ccarnally-minded is ddeath, and to be espiritually-minded is flife geternal.
What does it mean to be carnally minded?  Generally, we think of the word carnal, with devilish.  Sinful, vulgar, pleasures of the world come to mind.

One dictionary (Merriam Webster)  defines carnal as:
a : relating to or given to crude bodily pleasures and appetites b : marked by sexuality <carnal love>
That fits what I have thought in the past.  But another  dictionary (dictionary.com which pulls from American Heritage, Random House and Merriam Webster) gives a broader reference:
1.pertaining to or characterized by the flesh or the body, its passions and appetites; sensual: carnal pleasures.
2.not spiritual; merely human; temporal; worldly: a man of secular, rather carnal, leanings.
This sounds a lot more applicable to all mankind.  We all have passions and appetites.

The challenge then, of this scripture is to put off the natural man -- and put a higher emphasis on things of a spiritual nature first.  Make them, a first and higher priority in your life.
